Milkloft for partners
If you are the one who gets up for the night bottle, your question is small and specific: which bag, and can I get it wrong. Milkloft answers it on the first screen, by name and by the code written on the bag, so you do not have to wake anyone to ask and nobody discovers in the morning that the oldest bag stayed at the back again.
In short
Warming and leftover windows come from the guideline you chose, and every date is an estimate.
A day with Milkloft
- The baby wakes at two You open the app before you open the freezer. The first card says which bag to use and why, with the code that is written on it in your hand.
- You warm what will get drunk Warm water, not the microwave. The app repeats the window that starts once milk has been warmed, from the guideline the household picked.
- You mark it used, in one tap The totals move, the next answer updates, and the morning does not begin with a reconstruction of the night.
- Nobody had to be woken up That is the whole feature. The list is not in one person’s head any more, which is the part that actually gets shared.

Start with these
- The 24-hour thaw clock: when thawed breast milk actually expires
- Baby didn't finish the bottle: save it or dump it?
- FIFO for breast milk: rotate your stash so nothing expires
What one purchase covers
Milkloft Pro is bought once and Family Sharing is switched on, so up to six people in the same Apple family unlock it from that one purchase. The second phone taps Restore purchase in settings. There is no second licence, no seat, and nothing that renews.
Two things get shared, and they are separate. Family Sharing shares the purchase. The stash is shared from Settings by whoever keeps it: they send a link, the other person accepts it on their iPhone, and from then on you both see and edit the same bags. There is still no server of ours: the stash stays in the iCloud of the person who shared it, and Apple handles who can open it. Sharing needs Pro on the Apple Account of the person who shares, including Pro that comes through Family Sharing; the person invited buys nothing.
The one thing not to do
Milk that has thawed does not go back in the freezer. The CDC and the NHS say so, the ABM makes no recommendation either way, and the app is stricter than all three here: it will not let a bag that left the freezer return to it, even in the case where the CDC allows refreezing during a power outage. If a bag came out and is not going to be used, that is a conversation for the morning, not a decision to make tired at the freezer door.
Frequently asked questions
Which bag of breast milk should I use tonight?
Whichever clock runs out first: thawed milk in the fridge, then fresh fridge milk, then the oldest frozen bag. Milkloft names it on its home screen, with the code that is written on the bag.
Do we have to buy the app twice?
No. Milkloft Pro is a one-time purchase with Family Sharing on, so it unlocks for up to six people in the same Apple family. The second person taps Restore purchase.
Does buying it together mean we share the same stash?
Not by itself: Family Sharing shares the purchase. The stash is shared on purpose, from Settings, by whoever keeps it. With Pro, up to six people see and edit the same bags, each on their own iPhone, through iCloud, and when one of you marks a bag used, the other phone shows it too.
How do I warm breast milk in the middle of the night?
Warm water, never the microwave, which is the CDC’s wording and the reason is hot spots. Once it has been warmed, the guideline windows are short, so warm about what the baby will drink.
What do I do with what is left in the bottle?
The window counts from when the feed started: two hours under the CDC, one under the NHS. Our guide on the unfinished bottle explains what each one publishes and what none of them says.
